International Franchise Expo

The New York Franchise Show Will Have a Grand Opening!

The International Franchise Expo (IFE) is heading for a great launch in its New York City debut on June 15th.  Read why this event has the potential to grow into a major franchise event.

Last year I wrote a blog about the IFE relocating to New York City and I predicted great success. Now I can say with a high degree of certainty that my prediction will come true. My initial prognosis was based upon a number of factors:

  • There are 28 million people that live within 2 hours drive time from NYC.
  • The availability of public transportation can easily transport visitors from Philadelphia, Connecticut and New Jersey.
  • NYC is the media capital of the World and the visibility of the IFA and leading franchise firms will help to publicize the franchise industry to U.S. and international media.
  • The location of numerous investment banking, PE and VC firms in NYC will add more buzz to the event.
  • NYC has an international presence that far surpasses any other U.S. city. This means great opportunities for franchisors looking to go overseas. The New York region continues to be the leading metropolitan gateway for legal immigrants admitted into the United States.
  • The population that resides in this market is the most diverse in the U.S. which will add to the appeal of the IFE
  • NYC is the number 1 tourist destination in the country.

As a result of these factors the IFE in its new venue will generate an enormous amount of publicity for the franchise industry.

Recently, I spoke with Richard Del Giorno, Business Development Show Manager for MFV who told me:  “As of today we have well over 200 companies signed up to exhibit and will be opening the doors to the IFE’12 with well over 300 franchisor exhibitors.”

Joel Goldstein, Group Marketing Director for MFV indicates that preliminary media interest in the New York show is unprecedented compared to previous shows. Examples include: Fortune Magazine, Money Magazine, TIME Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Newark Star-Ledger/NJ. Also, I expect NY and Cable TV to be provide extensive coverage as the IFE moves closer to its opening.

When it comes to the future success of the IFE in New York; Tom Portsey, President of MFV believes that the IFE will be the largest franchise event in the world within 3 years!

Here is an excerpt from my blog: “I'm going to go against the recent downward trends of franchise trade show attendance and exhibitors and predict that next year’s IFE in New York City will provide a shot in the arm for franchising. I realize that the Internet, Social Media and other vehicles may have diminished the appeal of the traditional franchise trade show; however, the move to NYC by MFV Expo will make a difference.”

Finally, I would say that the demise of the franchise trade show and in particular the IFE has been greatly exaggerated!
